BEHIND CLOSED DOORS by Cynthia Catera

This Friday debuts the East Coast premier of

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS as a part of FringeNYC.

Taking place in the time of the Coalition, this musical embarks on the journey of civil liberty, social order, and those who don't abide in social norms.....all tied into a sultry Cabaret theme.

The revolution is born Behind Closed Doors, where the characters must choose to fight for freewill and the truth they stand behind.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY
Born as a reaction to California’s passage of Prop 8, the show began development in earnest in late 2010 when Peter Berube (book) established a creative partnership with Aaron Beaumont (music and lyrics).

THE CAUSE
The mission of Behind Closed Doors is to address LGBT rights and social justice: issues at the forefront of current events. The message at the heart of Behind Closed Doors is that silence in the face of injustice means complicity with the status quo. We dream of turning this musical into a nationally touring production, partnering with LGBT organizations to provide support and educational resources for youth, and challenging allies nationwide to speak out.

COME ON OUT AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!!!

THE MOTS NOUVEAUX by Cynthia Catera

The Mots Nouveaux are taking NYC by storm!!!

With their Friday night residency at SideWalk Cafe, to their appearances at Rockwood Music Hall, check out the vids below featuring last week's performance at SideWalk.

Their name, meaning "words new",  combines a little rag-time & a little sultry cabaret...all mixed with catchy & melodic pop hooks...........you know the ones you wake up to singing in your head =)

With the dynamic voice of EMMA FITZPATRICK, the magnetic harmonies from AMANDA WALLACE, and the ebony & ivory mastermind of AARON BEAUMONT, this LA to NY band is a force of nature (and talent) taking the NYC music scene to new heights.

Rockwood Music Hall-THIS IS NOT THE RADIO by Cynthia Catera

Sunday night, I found myself sitting in a basement exploding with talent. A music showcase at Rockwood Music Hall has begun every third Sunday of the month, and has to be better than any full-price, big box office artist (but then again I AM a fan of intimate venues.) One after another, each artist was better than the next. The talent, heart, and the soul of each artist resonated so deeply...with such ease and relaxation extending from their pipes.

The event is put on by THIS IS NOT THE RADIO, which is a community of performance artists and musicians coming together to share their art and finding support in a city where it's a struggle for even the finest of artists to get noticed and stage time. Tonight, I got to see THE MOTS NOUVEAUX, LINDSEY LUFF, and AKIE BERMISS

My personal sweet spot is for the MOTS, I may even consider myself a groupie. And who wouldn't.... with front woman EMMA FITZPATRICK, key pounding AARON BEAUMONT, and background vocals from AMANDA WALLACE, this LA group ventured cross-country to build their following on the east coast...and my... are we lucky to have them:) A little rag-time, a little sultry cabaret, mixed with catchy pop hooks, you're likely to fall in love in a moment's time....

THE MOTS NOUVEAUX

motsnouveaux

Here's a jam from back west....CALIFORNIA

...still not enough? You can catch them at SIDEWALK CAFE on Friday nights!!! (This Friday at 10:30pm)

LINDSEY LUFF

I've always had a soft spot for truthful song-writing, paired with a melodic piano. Throw in a guitar with a beat-ful bass and the trio's complete! THAT VOICE!!!!

AKIE BERMISS

The OTHER piano man....This guy kills it with his playing technique and a voice to match. Bonus points...ending on his personal rendition of "Still the One" by Miss Shania.

Rich Dad/Poor Dad Quotes by Cynthia Catera

RICH DAD/ POOR DAD is one of my favorite books in which author Robert T. Kiyosaki shares his personal reflections of how the wealthy got to where they are and how the middle class stays at status quo. Having 2 fathers: One rich, one poor, he was able to assess the difference in lifestyles and how each got their financial standings- From running the rat race to successful investments, below are some of my favorite quotes from the book.

“In school we learn that mistakes are bad, and we are punished for making them. Yet, if you look at the way humans are designed to learn, we learn by making mistakes. We learn to walk by falling down. If we never fell down, we would never walk.”

“In the real world outside of academics, something more than just grades is required. I have heard it called "guts," "chutzpah," "balls," "audacity," "bravado," "cunning," "daring," "tenacity" and"brilliance." This factor, whatever it is labeled, ultimately decides one's future much more than school grades.”

“Winners are not afraid of losing. But losers are. Failure is part of the process of success. People who avoid failure also avoid success.”

“You’re only poor if you give up. The most important thing is that you did something. Most people only talk and dream of getting rich. You’ve done something.”

“If you’re the kind of person who has no guts, you just give up every time life pushes you. If you’re that kind of person, you’ll live all your life playing it safe, doing the right things, saving yourself for something that never happens. Then, you die a boring old man.”

“Emotions are what make us human. Make us real. The word 'emotion' stands for energy in motion. Be truthful about your emotions, and use your mind and emotions in your favor, not against yourself.”

“Workers work hard enough to not be fired, and owners pay just enough so that workers won't quit.”

"THE FEAR OF BEING DIFFERENT PREVENTS MOST PEOPLE FROM SEEKING NEW WAYS TO SOLVE THEIR PROBLEMS.”

“The single most powerful asset we all have is our mind. If it is trained well, it can create enormous wealth in what seems to be an instant.”

“We all have tremendous potential, and we all are blessed with gifts. Yet, the one thing that holds all of us back is some degree of self-doubt. It is not so much the lack of technical information that holds us back, but more the lack of self-confidence.”

“Just know that it’s fear that keeps most people working at a job. The fear of not paying their bills. The fear of being fired. The fear of not having enough money. the fear of starting over.

"That’s the price of studying to learn a profession or trade, and then working for money. Most people become a slave to money… and then get angry at their boss.”

“Whenever you feel ‘short’ or in ‘need’ of something, give what you want first and it will come back in buckets. That is true for money, a smile, love, friendship. I know it is often the last thing a person may want to do, but it has always worked for me. I just trust that the principle of reciprocity is true, and I give what I want.”

FUERZA BRUTA WAYRA by Cynthia Catera

When art, theater, music, and dance meet as one, amazing things emerge. Add some spectacular set design and a conceptualized story-line, you begin to have the creation of Wayra, Fuerza Bruta's second show.

With the show evolving around at you every second, interaction is key with the characters, dancing within the crowd, and the water world ceiling lowering to inches above your head. The movement of the crowd as a living & breathing organism accompanying the show as they move between scenes... And you're always looking as to what is coming next...

My favorite part, since I missed out on the first Fuerza Bruta, was the pool-like ceiling... with the dancers running and diving throughout shallow pools. As I stood underneath, mesmerized by the rippling effects of the water, I watched how the tides progress with their motions and lighting.

A quick show with intense visuals and a conceptual atmosphere-I recommend that everyone checks out this show and steps into the amazing world of Frueza Bruta!
